Chelsea FC: Mayor of London agrees to the £500m project for the new Stamford Bridge

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has verbally supported the stadium project for Stamford Bridge, which would demolish and build a new stadium, increasing the capacity from 41,600 to 60,000 seats, announced Chelsea FC (Premier League) on 06/03/2017. The project is estimated to cost £500m (€570m).

The Hammersmith and Fulham Council (London District located west of downtown) planning committee had formally supported the Stamford Bridge project on 11/01/2017. "Chelsea Pitch Owners" (CPO), the nonprofit association which owns the land on which the stadium is located, said it will not oppose the project in January 2017. No date has date has been set for the beginning of the work, which will force Chelsea to play three seasons in another stadium.
