CAF: Ahmad Ahmad (MAD) elected president, defeating Issa Hayatou (CMR), in office since 1988

Ahmad Ahmad, 57 years, president of the Football Federation of Madagascar, has been elected president of CAF, at the General Assembly of the African confederation held in Addis Ababa (ETH) on 16/03/2017. He obtained 34 votes against 20 for the Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, 70 years, who held this position since 1988, and was running for an eighth term.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new president of the Confederation of African Football, the Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad, who won the election by a score of 34-20 today in Addis Ababa against the incumbent president Issa Hayatou. Congratulations to Ahmad! Congratulations to #Madagascar #TogetherForChange," writes the Madagascar Federation on its Facebook page on 16/03/2017.

Issa Hayatou, the first vice-president of FIFA, was the acting president of FIFA from 08/10/2015, the day Joseph Blatter (SUI) was suspended by the FIFA Ethics Committee, until 26/02/2016, the date of the election of Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI).
