FIFA: worldwide extension of several sanctions for match manipulation

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) has extended worldwide sanctions imposed on a number of individuals relating to match-fixing, the international body announced, on the 29/08/2013.

The decision relates to investigations conducted by UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), AFC (Asian Football Confederation), the Estonian Federation and the Tunisian Federation.

The decisions by the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in relation to those cases were duly notified to the respective confederations and member associations on the 28/08/2013.

The international body said that for 10 years, in partnership with Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization), regional seminars are held around the world to educate stakeholders of football and give them the tools to better protect the integrity of sport.

FIFA also developed other tools to fight against sports fraud: statements of integrity by officials, the monitoring of the betting market via its subsidiary EWS (Early Warning System, Early Warning System) and the setting up of an e-learning ethics tool…
