Euro 2020: legal problem for the Eurostadium, located in the Flemish territory and not in Brussels

The construction of the Eurostadium in the Heysel Car Park C near the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels (BEL) would not meet UEFA's requirements for Euro 2020, according to Belgian press on 07/06/2017. UEFA would ask the City of Brussels to guarantee its responsibility in terms of safety, as the city does not have jurisdiction over the stadium in Car Park C, which the city owns but is in the region of Flandres (Flemish town of Grimbergen).

Ghelamco, the promoter of the stadium, urged URBSFA to confirm "immediately, specifically, and publicly" their "unconditional support" to the project. However, the Belgian Federation refers to a hosting agreement with UEFA in 2014 which stated that the stadium should be within the territory of the host city, Brussels.

Brussels will host four matches (three group stage and one round-of-16 match) at Euro 2020 which will be held in 13 cities in 13 UEFA countries, with the semi-finals and the final at the Wembley Stadium (London, England).
