Two new franchises, owned by the Indian steel brand Tata Steel and the Indian conglomerate Jindal South West (JSW), will join the ISL for the start of the 2017 edition, according to Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the joint venture in charge of the competition, on 12/06/2017.

"Much to the popular demand of a longer Indian Super League and Football Sports Development Limited’s (FSDL) objective of spreading the beautiful game to India’s vast geography, the ISL in its fourth edition will witness an expanded five-month module with number of participating clubs increasing to ten from its original eight founding member city clubs," said the FSDL.

Tata Steel was granted the right to participate in the ISL from the city of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand State in the East of India). JSW Group owns, through its subsidiary JSW Sports, the Bengaluru FC club (Bangalore, Karnataka State in the south of India), who were given the right to participate in the ISL.
