Australia: nine players and a coach suspected of rigging second division matches

Nine players and a coach were arrested by the Australian police, on the 15/09/2013. They are suspected by the FFA (Football Federation Australian) of having rigged matches counting for the Victorian Premier League, Australian second division. The accused belong to Southern Victoria FC.

The money wagered on the suspected club came mainly from abroad, according to the FFA. The amount of these gains would be around 2 million Australian dollars (€1.4 million).

"The FFV (Football Federation of the State of Victoria) is shocked to learn the match-fixing allegations involving the Southern Stars FC," said the FFV on the16/09/2013. "This is an unprecedented scenario for the Victorian football community. We commend Victoria Police for their actions and obviously will fully support their ongoing investigations", the federation added.
