FIFA: death of American Chuck Blazer, former Executive Committee member, banned for life in 2015

The American Chuck Blazer (born on 26/04/1945), a FIFA Executive Committee member from 1997 until his suspension by the independent Ethics Committee on 06/05/2013, passed away on 12/07/2017, announced his lawyer, Eric Comgold on 13/07/2017.

"His mistakes, for which he acknowledged full responsibility, should not make us forget the positive impact Chuck had on international football," added the lawyer. Convinced of corruption, Chuck Blazer, who risked 100 years in prison, agreed to become an informer to the FBI on the scandal that hit FIFA in 2015 and which led in particular to the resignation of Joseph Blatter (SUI), on 02/06/2015, a few days after his re-election to the presidency, on 29/05/2015.

The international federation had denounced, for example, on 15/03/2016, a bribe of $10m (€8.2m in 2004) paid by South Africa in 2004, notably to Jack Warner and Chuck Blazer, the president and secretary general respectively (from 1990 to 2011) of CONCACAF, to obtain the hosting rights for the 2010 World Cup.
