Philippe Piat has been appointed president of FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers) for the 2013-2017 period by the board of the organisation, on the 23/09/2013. The decision must still be ratified by the FIFPro Congress, which takes place on the 22/10/2013.

Philippe Piat got 8 out of 11 votes at the FIFPro meeting, held on the 18/09 and 19/09/2013. Rinaldo Martorelli (Brazil), also a candidate, got the three remaining votes.

The Frenchman was previously president of the international union from November 2005 to November 2007. He has been, since 2009, president of FIFPro Europe. He has also been co-president of the UNFP (National Union of Professional Footballers) since 1969.

He will have to deal with many issues during his four year presidency, from the standard status of players, the transfer system, betting, the World Anti-Doping Code, the development of FIFPro in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia, the 50th anniversary of the International Union in 2015, relations with international bodies and other international organisations (clubs, leagues).
