Serie A TIM: Cagliari Calcio inaugurated the Sardegna Arena on Sunday, 10/09/2017

"The authorization process for the opening of the Sardegna Arena is complete; after the agreement of the Provincial Committee for the Supervision of Public Places and the City Council of Cagliari, the green light from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the Lega Serie A has arrived," announced Cagliari Calcio (Serie A TIM) on 05/09/2017.

The Sardinian club thus inaugurated its new stadium, the Sardegna Arena (16,233 capacity) for its first home game of the 2017-18 Serie A TIM season, against FC Crotone (1-0 victory for Cagliari, Matchday 3), on Sunday, 10/09/2017 (kick-off at 15:00 CET).

The Sardegna Arena, whose project was presented on 03/05/2017, has 15 VIP boxes and hospitality areas, as well as an area dedicated to children. The club's total investment is estimated at nearly €8m. Until 2016-17, Cagliari Calcio played at Stadio Sant'Elia (a 23,486-seater venue, reduced by 5,000 seats in 2014 for safety reasons), inaugurated in 1970 and adjacent to the new enclosure (see below).
