Tottenham Hotspur: future stadium will have retractable natural pitch reserved for football matches

The future stadium of Tottenham Hotspur FC (Premier League) will be equipped with a retractable field system, announced the London club on 07/09/2017. A synthetic surface for NFL football games, concerts, and other non-football events will be set up, on which a natural pitch for Premier League matches can be rolled up on top (see video below).

"The surface will split into three sections to show each tray before retracting under the South Stand to reveal the artificial playing surface underneath. The process of switching from one surface to another is expected to take approximately 25 minutes" stated Tottenham Hotspur, on 07/09/2017.

"Once the grass pitch is returned, the joins are invisible and undetectable allowing for a Premier League quality playing surface every matchday," the club said. The British firm SCX will begin this installation in October 2017, which will take 12 weeks to complete. The new Tottenham stadium, with a capacity of 61,559 seats, is expected to open in 2018.
