Qatar 2022: FIFPro calls for "respect for universal standards of football"

FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), has called the world of football to ensure that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is be prepared and organised "in accordance with football’s universal values as set out in the FIFA statutes (Federation Internationale de Football Association)," said the international union, on the 27/09/2013.

FIFPro said it was "deeply alarmed by reports of the brutal exploitation of migrant workers by construction companies in Qatar who are involved in building the stadiums."

"FIFA has previously acted to ensure international labour standards are respected when it worked with the ILO (International Labour Organisation) in the fight against child labour in the manufacture of footballs. A similar initiative is urgently needed in Qatar," added the union representing 50,000 professional footballers in the world.
