Morocco wants to be "candidate for the organisation of the 2026 World Cup," said Karim Akkari, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the country, on the 30/09/2013.

Morocco's candidacy would be the fifth attempt, after the failures in 1994 (USA), 1998 (France), 2006 (Germany) and 2010 (South Africa).

Morocco is hosting the FIFA Club World Cup from the 11/12 to the 21/12/2013 in Agadir and Marrakech. The 2014 edition will also be held in Morocco. "These two events will have an impact in terms of image and a ripple effect on foreign investment. They will help to strengthen the position of Morocco as a candidate in the organisation of the 2026 World Cup," said Karim Akkari during an information day dedicated to preparations for the 2013 Club World Cup.

  • Each edition of the Club World Cup in 2013 and 2014 is expected to attract 50,000 visitors, according to estimations of the Moroccan government.
