MLB: the Facebook and Twitter communities of the franchises (October 2017)

The 30 MLB franchises had 57.2 million fans on the social network Facebook, on 01/10/2017, an average of 1.9 million "likes" per team in the North American baseball league, whose 2017 season started on 02/04/2017, and who postseason play-off tournament culminating in the World Series begins on 03/10/2017. These figures represented 108,403 less "likes" for the 30 league teams (-0.2%) compared to on 01/09/2017, which was 3,613 less on average per franchise.

In total, 25 of the 30 franchises (83% of the teams in the league) saw their "Like" entries decline in September 2017. This decline has been continuous since the launch of the Facebook and Twitter readings of the MLB franchises by News Tank Football on 01/06/2017: 16 of the 30 teams (53% of the total) had fewer "Likes" on 01/10/2017 than four months ago, and all clubs lost 98,517 "likes" since 01/06/2017 (-0.2%). This continuous drop can be explained in particular by a cleaning operated by Facebook, which removes the "likes" given by "bots" (robots) or by inactive or even deactivated accounts.
