Facebook: 247.5 million fans in total for the 20 Premier League clubs (October 2017)

The 20 clubs in the 2017-18 Premier League season have a cumulative 247.5 million fans on the social network Facebook, according to data recorded by News Tank Football on 01/10/2017. This total makes the Premier League the most popular European league on Facebook, with more than 12.3 million fans on average per club.

Manchester City saw the best percentage growth in the Premier League in September 2017 with 668,302 additional fans (+2.5%), bringing their total to more than 27 million fans (5th best total in the Premier League).

Manchester United is the most followed English club with nearly 74 million fans. Chelsea FC, the reigning champions, are the second most followed Premier League club with nearly 48 million fans. Fourteen clubs in the English league have more than one million fans, a record high in the Top 5 leagues.

Seven of the twenty clubs recorded a decrease in their number of fans compared to on 01/09/2017. This decrease could be explained by a "cleanup" operated by Facebook, which removes the "likes" recorded by "bots" (robots) or by inactive or deactivated accounts.
