"The health of the sports industry is ultimately equivalent to that of its consumers. In the United States, 66% of the population is not active enough, according to standards of good health. The new generation of Americans is the first to be in poorer health and to have a shorter life expectancy than that of their parents. It is our moral but also our economic duty to prepare a new generation of active people who move, practice sports, watch sports, go to the stadium, and buy sporting goods," said Gene McCarthy, CEO of Asics America, the American subsidiary of the Japanese sports equipment manufacturer, on 04/10/2017.

Gene McCarthy, a former director of the brands Under Armour, Reebok, Nike, and also Timberland, spoke at the 2017 Leaders Sport Business Summit in London (ENG). His talk was titled "The changing relationship between sports and athletes". News Tank Football is covering the Leaders event with an on-site analyst.
