Champions League: Greenpeace protesters interrupted the match between Basel and Schalke 04

International environmental protection NGO (Non Governmental Organisation) Greenpeace, has interrupted the Champions League match between Basel and Schalke 04 (0-1, second day of group stage, group E) displaying a message from the roof of Saint-Jacques Park in Basel (SWI) on the 01/10/2013.

Four Greenpeace activists climbed on the roof of the 36,000-seat stadium and rappelled to unfurl a banner "Do not foul the Arctic," with reference to oil drilling projects of Russian company Gazprom. The producer and exporter of gas is Schalke 04's (Bundesliga) shirt sponsor.

The meeting was interrupted a few minutes, the time to stop the militants and remove the banner.

Michel Platini, President of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) was present at the stadium, during the meeting. Gazprom is also UEFA's partner.
