Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay have officially announced their candidature to host the 2030 World Cup in Buenos Aires (ARG) on 04/10/2017. The announcement was made at Casa Rosada, the executive mansion and office of the President of Argentina, by the three heads of state Mauricio Macri (ARG), Tabaré Vasquez (URU) and Horacio Cortes (PAR), in the presence of Gianni Infantino, FIFA, Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL, and presidents of the three candidate federations.

It is the first candidature for the 24th edition of the tournament which will mark the centenary of the first World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930. South America has hosted five of the 20 World Cups so far, the last being Brazil, in 2014.

Three other countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico, have declared their intention to formally submit a joint bid to host the 2026 World Cup on 10/04/2017. This was the first ever three-country World Cup bid. Of the 22 awarded World Cup tournaments (from 1930-2022), only one; South Korea and Japan in 2002, was not hosted by a single country.
