2026 World Cup: the FIFA Council announce bidding process on the agenda on 27/10/2017

The 2026 World Cup bidding process is on the agenda of the FIFA Council meeting in Calcutta, India on Friday 27/10/2017 (the eve of the final of the U-17 World Cup, in the same city), announced FIFA on 13/10/2017.

The Moroccan Football Federation officially presented its candidature to organise the 2026 World Cup on 11/08/2017. The other registered application is the joint application from the United States, Mexico, and Canada, filed on 10/04/2017.

The 67th FIFA Congress in Manama, Bahrain, had granted "a three-month period (until 11/08/2017) for member associations from CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and the OFC to express their interest in hosting the tournament," according to FIFA, on 11/05/2017. Two confederations were not concerned by this call for candidates: UEFA, because Russia is organising the 2018 World Cup and the AFC because the 2022 edition will take place in Qatar.

The 68th FIFA Congress is expected to decide the organisers of the 2026 World Cup in Moscow (RUS) on 13/06/2018, the day before the opening match of the 2018 World Cup. If no applications are received, a new call…
