Germany: launch of free OTT TV platform on 7TV by ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery

The American audiovisual group Discovery Communications and the German audiovisual group ProSiebenSat.1 have jointly launched a free, advertising-funded streaming service (AVOD), that offers live and catch-up content, announced the two companies at the Mipcom event in Cannes, France (from 16 to 19/10/2017), on 16/10/2017.

The service is marketed under the 7TV brand, a digital platform of ProSiebenSat.,1 and uses the existing application. ProSiebenSat.1 also announced that a "Eurosport" zone, which will offer users highlights and excerpts of sporting events, will be launched on 7TV. Discovery Communications and ProSiebenSat.1 joined forces in a joint venture to launch a mobile OTT television platform on 02/05/2017.

The service gathers the content of nine television channels (other content will be added later):
• The seven channels included in the current 7TV mobile offering of ProSiebenSat.1 are: ProSieben, SAT.1, kabel eins, sixx, ProSieben MAXX, Sat.1 Gold, and kabel eins Doku)
• The two German market free-TV channels of Discovery (DMAX and TLC).
