Qatar 2022 in summer or winter: leagues and clubs welcomed the wide consultation announced by FIFA

The ECA (European Club Association) and EPFL (Association of European Professional Football Leagues) have welcomed, on the 04/10/2013, FIFA's (Federation Internationale de Football Association) decision to organise a consultation process on the season to play the XXIIth World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.

"I welcome the decision of FIFA and Sepp Blatter (FIFA's president) to take the time to conduct a consultation process involving all stakeholders concerned and discuss the date for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar," said Karl- Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the ECA.

"We are pleased that FIFA President and FIFA Executive Committee took into consideration our position for this delicate matter. This is positive for the European Leagues and the whole football family," said Frédéric Thiriez, EPFL's chairman.
