Atlanta United FC (Major League Soccer) broke the North American league's attendance record in their regular season game of the season against Toronto FC (2-2). The game drew 71,824 spectators to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (75,000 capacity) in Atlanta, Georgia (USA), on 22/10/2017, according to MLS.

The previous record already belonged to Atlanta United FC. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium drew 70,245 spectators during a match against Orlando City SC (3-3) on 16/09/2017. The Atlanta club played its first game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium against FC Dallas (3-0) on Sunday 10/09/2017.

Another record was broken in the game against Toronto FC: a new season-high average attendance over a regular season that has never been achieved by an MLS franchise. With an average of 48,200 spectators per game in 2018, and with just eight home games played in its new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United FC exceeded the previous record held by New York Cosmos who drew an average of 48,000 per game in 1978.
