Italy: league, federation, and the clubs react to anti-Semitic acts committed by Lazio supporters

"The Lazio president, Claudio Lotito, has decided that at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in Bologna (ITA) on Wednesday 25/10/2017 (Matchday 10 of the Serie A TIM, kick-off at 20:45 CET), the team will warm up with a photo of Anne Frank on a white kit, bearing witness to the commitment of the club to fight against all forms of racism and anti-Semitism," said Arturo Diaconale, spokesman of SS Lazio ("SS" stands for Societa Sportiva, or Sport Club), on 24/10/2017.

This decision follows the behavior of Lazio supporters, who glued photo-montages of Anne Frank wearing the kit of rival club AS Roma at the Stadio Olympico in Rome (which the two clubs share), during the SS Lazio - Cagliari Calcio (3-0, Matchday 9 of the Serie A TIM), on Sunday 22/10/2017. Anne Frank is a Jewish teenager who kept a diary while living in hiding in Amsterdam (Netherlands) during the Holocaust, before being arrested and dying at the age of 15 at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
