Spain: Juan Luis Larrea, president of the RFEF, announces Video Assistance Referees for 2018-19

Juan Luis Larrea, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, announced the arrival of Video Assistance Referees (VAR) for the 2018-19 LaLiga Santander season, on 25/10/2017.

When asked by the Spanish radio station Cadena SER about the date of the introduction of the Video Assistance Referees in the Spanish League, the RFEF president answered: "Next season is our intention. The technology has broken into football and you have to accept it."

This technology has already been used in the Bundesliga (GER), the Serie A TIM (ITA) and the Liga NOS (POR) since the start of the 2017-18 season. France will make use of the technology in the 2017-18 Coupe de la Ligue from the quarter-finals. The IFAB is expected to decide in early 2018 on the Video Assistance Referee that could, if necessary, be applied at the 2018 World Cup (from 14/06 to 15/07/2018) in Russia.
