141 of the largest teams in the world (all sports combined) are owned by 109 billionaires, according to the 2017 study on billionaires, "New value creators gain momentum - Billionaires insights 2017", conducted jointly by the Swiss bank UBS and the consulting firm PwC, and published on 26/10/2017.

Of these 109 billionaires, 60 are American, 29 Asian, and 20 European. Their average age is 68 years old, and their fortune amounts to an average of $5bn (€4.3bn, as of 30/10/2017).

The 141 sports teams in the study are predominantly American (89, or 63.1%), the others are Asian (32, 22.7%) and European (20, 14.2%). Football is the most represented sport (see infographic below) with 38 clubs (26.95%), ahead of basketball (24 clubs, 17%) and American football (16.3%).

Nine out of 20 Premier League clubs are owned by billionaires. In the United States, two-thirds of all NBA and NFL clubs, as well as half of the MLB clubs, are also owned by billionaires, highlighted the fourth edition of this UBS / PwC study, which stated that the total fortune of 1,542 billionaires worldwide (of which 560…
