Glenn Hoddle appointed member of FA's committee on the competitiveness of the English selection

Glenn Hoddle has accepted the invitation of Greg Dyke, chairman of the FA (Football Association), to join a commission aimed at making the English national team more effective at an international level, on the 09/10/2013. Greg Dyke wants the England team, which has not participated in the semi-finals of a major tournament since the 1996 Euro in England, to play the semi-finals of Euro 2020, and win the final of the 2022 World Cup.

The commission must first conduct an inventory of football in England today, to think about how to improve and implement reforms in the Premier League.

The President of the Federation calls a "downward spiral" the fact that many English players do not have the chance to play in the Premier League. "In 2012/13, 32% of Premier League players were English. What happens when that declines to 25%, to 20% or even 15%? Do we still ignore the problem and hope it goes away? Or do we take action now?" said Greg Dyke, on the 04/09/2013.

Glenn Hoddle was an English international player (53 caps between 1979 and 1988) and England's coach from 1996 to 1999.
