UK: Helen Grant, new Sport and Equalities Minister

Helen Grant has been appointed Minister for Sports and Equality in the United Kingdom, on the 07/10/2013. She takes over Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport since 2010, who joined the Foreign Office. Helen Grant, Assistant Secretary of State for Women and Equality since 2010, is now under the authority of Maria Miller, Culture Secretary.

"Hugh leaves behind a strong legacy from the outstanding success of London 2012," said UK Sport chairman Rod Carr, the British development agency of top-level sport. "We look forward to working closely with new Sport and Equalities Minister Helen Grant as we move towards the Sochi Winter Olympics and Rio 2016," he added.

Conservative MP, Helen Grant is the MP for Maidstone and the Weald since 2010. The 52-year old woman represented Cumbria in hockey, tennis, athletics and cross-country before becoming under-16 judo champion in the north of England and southern Scotland.
