Premier League: more matches to be broadcast in the UK from 2019-2022, according to The Guardian

The chairmen of the 20 Premier League clubs have unanimously voted for an increase in the number of matches broadcast live in the United Kingdom during the next tender for the domestic TV rights (for the 2019-2022 period). The tender should go out to broadcasters before Christmas, indicated the British daily newspaper The Guardian on 16/11/2017.

Between 190 and 210 Premier League matches out of 380 (50% to 55.2%), compared to 168 currently (44.2%), are expected to be broadcast live in the UK from the 2019-20 season. In order to make this increase possible, one match could be staggered to Saturday during prime time. In addition, matches could be broadcast on public holidays during the week.

British law prohibits a football game from being broadcast live on TV in the UK on Saturday afternoons (from 14:45 to 17:15 local time) to encourage fans to attend the stadiums (and at the same time limit the consumption of alcohol in bars).
