Scotland: resignation of Craig Mather, CEO of Rangers

Craig Mather has resigned as chief executive of Glasgow Rangers (Scottish 3^rd Division) by mutual consent with the club, on the 16/10/2013. The Englishman was in office since the 24/04/2013. The decision is motivated by the desire of the chief executive to calm the rumors around the governance and management of Rangers.

"Despite recent events and speculation, the facts of the matter are that the club is financially secure and in a far better place than it was a year ago," said Mather on the 16/10/2013. "My short tenure as chief executive has been beset by incessant attempts to destabilise the operations of the club, all done supposedly in the interests of Rangers," he added.

The Scottish club is trying to rebuild itself after being demoted to the fourth division in 2012/13, with a debt accumulation of more than €160 million. Internal conflicts between the presidency, the Board of Directors and the team management, have created instability at the club.
