LaLiga: launch of the call for tenders for broadcasting rights in 32 European countries from 2018-19

LaLiga has launched the call for tenders for broadcasting rights of LaLiga Santander (and LaLiga Santander play-offs), in 32 European countries (excluding Spain), for the 2018-2021 period and 2018-2023 (outside of the European Union) on 05/12/2017.

Interested broadcasters have until 15/01/2018 (18:00 CET) to respond to the call for tenders which is headed by Mediapro Sports, the rights holder of international distribution of audiovisual rights of the Spanish football league, for the 2015-2020 cycle since 19/06/2015. Mediapro is aiming to sign three-year contracts (2015-2018, new cycle 2018-2021) with broadcasters in the European Union.

Originally planned a few weeks earlier, this call for tenders had been postponed due to the political situation in Catalonia. "We have seen, with everything that is said in the international media, that this is not the best time to bid," said Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga on 17/10/2017. LaLiga receives approximately €636m in international audiovisual rights per season for the 2015-2018 cycle.
