Major League Soccer: No European-like schedule in 2014

North America's Major League Soccer calendar will not be changed during the 2014 season, according to a spokesman for the league on its website on the 14/10/2013. The MLS season starts in March and ends the following December.

This denial follows an article in the New York Daily News, published the same day, in which the newspaper suggests that the 2014 MLS season will begin in August and end in May or June 2015, mirroring most European leagues. Also, according to the newspaper, the season will include a winter break of eight weeks.

"We recently conducted a survey and it had some questions about possibly moving the schedule. We regularly conduct market research on a variety of topics. Our fans’ preferences are important to us and we’ve proven to be good listeners," said a spokesman for the MLS on the leagues website, on 14/10/2013.

"We will announce plans for the 2014 season before the 2013 MLS Cup. The timing of the 2014 schedule will be very similar to the current season," added the spokesman.
