Aldo Rebelo, the Brazilian Sports Minister, will not resign and will remain in the government to coordinate the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil (12/06 to the 13/07/2014), according to the Brazilian media group Globo, on the 17/10/2013.

Aldo Rebelo met with Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil, on the 17/10/2013. The latter asked him to stay on and coordinate the organisation of the World Cup. Aldo Rebelo has been the main link between the federal government and FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) since taking office in October 2011.

The Minister announced that he would resign (on the 16/10/2013) in order to run for governor of the State of Sao Paulo in October 2014. "I think it will be in early December 2013, when the stadium mission has been completed" (as was agreed with FIFA), he said.

Two years after the 2014 World Cup, the city of Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympic Games.
