MLS: Nashville, Tennessee formally awarded a future expansion franchise, making 25 teams planned

The city of Nashville, Tennessee (USA) has been awarded a future MLS expansion franchise, announced the North American soccer league on 20/12/2017. The official name, colours, crest, and entry date into the league will be formalised at a later date.

"Nashville’s MLS team will be owned by the investment group, Nashville Soccer Holdings, LLC, led by John R. Ingram, the chairman of Ingram Industries Inc. Ingram’s partners in the soccer club include Minnesota Vikings owners Mark, Zygi and Leonard Wilf, and the Turner Family, managing partners of Nashville-based MarketStreet Enterprises," stated MLS in a press release.

"As a result of a private-public partnership between the club’s owners and the community, the team will play in a new, 27,500-seat soccer stadium at The Fairgrounds Nashville in the capital city’s artistic Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood," added MLS on 20/12/2017.

MLS counted 22 teams for the 2017 season. Los Angeles FC will enter the league in 2018, making 23 franchises. The David Beckham-led group for an MLS team in Miami, Florida (USA) remains the 24th franchise, though…
