Spain: Discovery exclusive broadcaster of PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018 via DMAX and Eurosport

The audiovisual group Discovery Communications will be the exclusive broadcaster, in Spain, of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, confirmed the US conglomerate to News Tank Football on 20/12/2017. The events will be available on the Eurosport pay-TV channels and the DMAX free-TV channel, in accordance with the agreement with the IOC to broadcast at least 100 hours of free-to-air programming of the Winter Olympic Games.

Discovery Communications, holder of the audiovisual rights of the Olympic Games in most of Europe for the 2018-2024 period (see below), did not wish to sign a sub-license agreement in Spain for the free-TV programming. For the first time, an edition of the Olympic Games will not be broadcast by the Spanish public group Radio Television Espanola (RTE).
