Premier League: Chelsea FC post record turnover of £361.3m (+9.8%) in 2016-17

Chelsea FC (Premier League) posted a record turnover of £361.3m (€410.9m as of 30/06/2017) in the 2017 fiscal year (from 01/07/2016 to 30/06/2017), up 9.8% compared to 2016 (£329.1m or €398.2m), announced the club on 29/12/2017.

The increase in the club's revenue was mainly due to the Premier League title won by the club during the 2016-17 season, as well as the English league's new TV rights agreement and the start of the new 2016-2019 cycle. Commercial revenues were also on the rise as a result of the signing of several partnerships, including one linking the club to the Thai brand of energy drinks, Carabao, for its training kits. Matchday revenues were down, as Chelsea FC did not compete in either of the two European cups during the 2016-17 season.

"Although the club recorded an operating loss in the year, the club reported an overall profit (£15.3m, or €17.4m) after making a profit on player trading of £69.2m (€78.7m). These results ensure the club continues to comply with UEFA’s break-even criteria under the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations," said Chelsea FC.
