TV rights: €1.2bn split between LaLiga Santander clubs in 2016-17, including €146m for Barça

€1.2bn of audiovisual rights (domestic and international) was distributed among the 20 clubs involved in the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander season, according to Palco23, a Spanish media outlet specialising in sports business, on 03/01/2018. FC Barcelona were the club that received the largest monetary amount (see below), €146.2m, ahead of Real Madrid CF (€140.1m) and Atletico de Madrid (€99.2m, +138% in two years). Promoted clubs Deportivo Alavés and CD Léganés, who finished 9th and 17th respectively in the 2016-17 season, were the two clubs that received the least with €39.3m each.

The enaction of the Spanish Royal Decree-Law 5/2015 on 30/04/2015 has cleared the way for collective marketing, in Spain, of the audiovisual rights for Spanish professional competitions from the 2016-17 season. LaLiga decided, on 19/06/2015, to advance this collective marketing of rights to the 2015-16 season.
