Premier League: Tottenham expected to start work on new stadium in June 2014

Tottenham Hotspur FC (Premier League) will start the construction of a new stadium in June 2014, according to several sources, on the 20/10/2013.

The club want to build a 56,000-seat stadium located on the site of the current White Hart Lane stadium (36,200 seats). It is estimated to cost €471 million. The urban project also provides for the creation of a new school, hundreds of homes and a shopping center.

Work should begin in June 2014, although the architectural plans are not yet known. The Populous architectural firm has been commissioned (06/09/2013) to provide an alternative project model to that of the KSS project which was unveiled in 2008.

Tottenham could move into the stadium from the 2016/17 season, although the work would not be fully completed by that date. The club wants to fund a portion of the stadium by selling its naming rights. Tottenham are currently in discussions with potential partners in the Middle East, Asia and the United States. The mayor of London awarded Tottenham a grant of €20 million in 2012 as part of the project.
