Twitter: 66 million followers in total for the 20 LaLiga Santander clubs (January 2018)

The 20 clubs involved in the 2017-18 LaLiga Santander season have a cumulative 66 million followers on the social network Twitter, according to data collected by News Tank Football on 01/01/2018. This result makes LaLiga Santander the second most popular European league on Twitter, with an average of 3.3 million followers per club, behind the Premier League (3.4 million).

Real Madrid CF are the most followed LaLiga Santander club with 28.4 million followers, ahead of FC Barcelona (26.6 million). The two Spanish clubs are the only clubs in Europe to be able to claim more than 25 million followers (only the main account is taken into account), and have 83.3% of the total followers of the LaLiga Santander clubs, as well as more followers between them than the 58 clubs of the Serie A TIM, the Ligue 1 Conforama, and the Bundesliga combined (54.99 million followers versus 50.48 million).

Getafe CF are the LaLiga Santander club with the best percentage growth on Twitter in December 2017 with 5.8% more followers. The club, however, remains in last place in the rankings with 62,627…
