IMG, Reliance Industries and Star India come together to create a new league in India

The media and marketing rights agency IMG Worldwide and the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries and Indian broadcaster Star India come together in equal parts, to create the Indian Super League, a new football league in India, announces IMG, on the 21/10/2013.

The first season of the Indian Super League kicks off with eight teams from eight different cities, on the 18/01/2014, and will end in March 2014, with a second part of the season scheduled for later in 2014. The league intends to "target the emerging interest in the young people who are interested more in international sport."

"The league promises to revolutionize the sport from the start, building on the strengths of each of the three partners who have the ambition to develop the game at national level to offer to Indian football better international exposure and help India qualify for the 2026 World Cup," said the statement from IMG.

The league wants to attract new players "world class" and associate them with the best Indian players. "Every team will have a star player, international players and the best Indian talents…
