FIFPro: Philippe Piat elected for four years as president of the international union (2013-2017)

FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers) has ratified the decision to appoint Phillipe Piat as president for the period 2013-2017, at the General Assembly in Ljubljana (Slovenia), on the 10/22/2013.

Philippe Piat had been appointed by the executive committee of the organisation, getting eight votes out of 11, at the meeting on the 18 and 19/09/2013. Rinaldo Martorelli (Brazil), also a candidate, had won the three other votes.

The Frenchman had already served as president of the union, from November 2005 to November 2007. From 2009, he was president of FIFPro Europe. He has also been president of the UNFP (French National Union of Professional Footballers) since 1969 (co-chair with Sylvain Kastendeuch since 2006).

"FIFPro cannot stay silent. It owes to the players to speak up. It committed itself to defend them, to support them, and to not abandon them, no matter the opponent and no matter that it may displease in high places", said Philippe Piat, on the 22/10/2013.
