Movistar+, a subsidiary of the telecommunications and pay-TV group Telefonica, has extended its broadcasting rights, in Spain, to the Formula 1 World Championship for three years (2018-2020 period), on 12/01/2018. Telefonica has been the Formula 1 broadcaster in Spain since 2014.

"Digital rights are being increased to improve race and competition coverage on the internet and social networks," added Movistar+ on 12/01/2018.

Movistar will broadcast the 21 Formula 1 Grand Prix races exclusively, including the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time. The Spanish Grand Prix, which is part of the list of competitions required to be broadcast free-to-air in the country (see below), should thus be the subject of a subsequent sub-licensing agreement.

  • The 2018 Formula 1 season begins with the Australian Grand Prix on 25/03/2018, and ends with Abu Dhabi on 25/11/2018.
