The draw for the first UEFA Nations League will take place in Lausanne (SUI) on Wednesday 24/01/2018 at 12:00 CET. The 55 teams of the federations affiliated to the European confederation will be divided into four divisions, leagues A, B, C and D, on the basis of their UEFA ranking established on 11/10/2017, after the European 2018 World Cup qualifiers, play-offs not included.

League A includes the top 12 teams (including the England national team, pot 2), the next 12 are in League B, the next 15 in League C and the last 16 in League D (see below). The event will take place in two stages, the group stages, then the Nations League finals. The draw is intended to divide all teams into groups of three or four (see below).

"While the UEFA Nations League will replace most friendly internationals, there will still be space in the calendar for friendlies, especially for top teams who may want to face opposition from outside Europe as they will be in groups of three teams," said UEFA on 11/10/2017.
