National championships reduced to 16 teams and a "great European Cup which would include the five biggest clubs in the top five European Championships", is the idea that Aurelio De Laurentiis, the club president of Naples, is proposing, on the 24/10/2013.

"One week would be devoted to the national championship, the other to the European championship with teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, AC Milan...It would be crazy, the end of the world!", he told l'Equipe. This competition could generate five billion euro - a revolution. All clubs would therefore have to have positive balance sheets."

"If UEFA persists in not listening to such proposals, then it will be necessary to create an unofficial league", added the president of SSC Napoli. "Hopefully Michel Platini, with his culture and his intelligence, will continue as the head of UEFA and will open himself to dialogue. Because I have to be concrete: they must find the money. Everyone seems happy to earn 40 million euro per season in the Champions League. I’m not. I want to earn 150 million or even 200 million euro."
