"The most important issue in modern football is the competitive balance between teams. We must maintain a situation where every team can enter competitions. This dream must be kept alive," said Aleksander Ceferin president of UEFA, on 18/01/2018.

"A classic 'salary cap', as it exists in North America, is not compatible with European laws. When politicians demand action, it's nothing more than populist statements. When we do it, we are told that it is impossible, so we have to go ahead without political help," said Aleksander Ceferin to the Swiss newspaper La Tribune de Genève.

"We envisage a 'luxury tax'. Its principle: if a club spends more than it earns, it will pay a tax on the difference - it is not a tax for the government, but for UEFA. We still have to decide how we will redistribute this money," said the president of the European confederation in an interview summarised by News Tank Football below.
