At mid-season, the 134 matches of the 2017-18 Bundesliga broadcast on the Sky Bundesliga pay-TV channels totaled 65.64 million subscribers, or an average of 489,850 viewers per game.

In mid-season 2016-17, the 149 games broadcast on Sky Bundesliga drew 54.63 million viewers (366,644 subscribers on average). However, the AGF Institute admitted to having made an error in its Sky pay-TV audience records for the calendar year 2016 on 12/01/2017: AGF believed it had underestimated Sky Deutschland's ratings by around 16% on average in 2016.

FC Bayern Munich - Bayer 04 Leverkusen (3-1), the opening match of the 2017-18 Bundesliga season, drew an average of 7.94 million viewers in Germany (29.3%), on Friday 18/08/2017 (kick-off at 20:30 CET) on the public TV channel ZDF, which holds the rights to the unencrypted broadcasting of three Bundesliga matches (2017-2021 period), during Matchday 1, 17 and 18.
