UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against CSKA Moscow for racist behavior

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) has opened disciplinary proceedings against CSKA Moscow for racist behavior, on the 24/10/2013. The case will be examined on the 30/10/2013 by the Disciplinary Committee of the European body.

During the match between CSK Moscow and Manchester City (1-2, match-day 3, group stage of the Champions League, group D) on the 10/23/2013, Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, from the English club, was the victim of racism by Russian fans, who are accused of making "monkey chants".

"Having carefully studied the video of the game, we found no racist insults from fans of CSKA. In many occasions, especially during attacks on our goal, fans booed and whistled to put pressure on rival players, but regardless of their race", said Roman Babayev, general manager of CSKA Moscow.

The disciplinary procedure also concerns the setting off of fireworks during the meeting.
