Italy: despite four rounds of voting, no candidate is elected president of the Federation

Despite four rounds of voting, the Federal Elective Assembly of the FIGC failed to elect a new president for the Italian Football Federation, in Fiumicino, near Rome (ITA) on 29/01/2018.

Damiano Tommasi, president of the Association of Italian Football Players (AIC), Cosimo Sibilia, president of the Italian Amateur Leagues (NLD), and Gabriele Gravina, president of the Lega Pro (3rd division), were the three candidates vying to succeed Carlo Tavecchio, who has held the presidency of the Italian Federation since 11/08/2014 and announced his resignation on 20/11/2017, a week after the Italian national team were eliminated from the 2018 World Cup, by Sweden (1-0 on aggregate to the Swedes in the UEFA-zone play-offs) on 13/11/2017.

No candidate obtained the required majority in any of the rounds of voting (see details below), and Cosimo Sibilia asked the representatives of amateur football to vote blank during the ballot normally intended to separate the two leading candidates: "I have tried by all means to reach an agreement, but the conditions do not exist to achieve it," stated…
