Premier League: BBC acquires TV rights to match summaries for £211.5m for the 2019-2022 period

The British public television broadcaster BBC has extended its broadcasting rights, for the United Kingdom, to summaries of all matches of the Premier League for the 2019-2022 period, on 30/01/2018.

The British public broadcasting group will pay £211.5m (€240m) to the Premier League over the 2019-2022 period, or £70.5m (€80m) per season. The amount is 3.7% higher than that paid by the BBC for 2016-2019 (£204m over the period, or €271.5m on 30/01/2015). The BBC paid £179.7m (€208.5m in July 2013) to acquire these rights for the 2013-2016 period.

The BBC has broadcasted highlights of the English first division on its "Match of the Day" programme since 22/08/1964, a span of more than 50 years (except for the 2001-04 cycle, when they were broadcasted on the private free-TV channel ITV).
