The 2018 Olympic Winter Games (from 09 to 25/02/2018) will officially begin with the opening ceremony organised at the Olympic Stadium (35,000 capacity) in PyeongChang (South Korea) on Friday 09/02/2018 from 20:00 local time (noon CET). A ceremony in which South Korea (Republic of Korea) and North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) will parade together under the same name, "Korea", following an IOC agreement on 20/01/2018.

The first events started on 08/02/2018, with the first four curling matches at the Curling Centre in Gangneung, a coastal town hosting the ice events. PyeongChang is located in a mountainous area, about fifty kilometers from Gangneung.

"102 titles in seven sports and 15 disciplines will be awarded during these Olympic Games, with over 2,900 athletes from 92 countries, nations and delegations participating," the organisers said on 08/02/2018.
