Bundesliga: domestic and international TV rights for the 2017-2021 cycle

The Bundesliga continues to award its TV rights internationally for the 2017-2021 cycle. For all the domestic audiovisual rights of the competitions organised by the DFL (Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga, promotion/relegation play-offs, and the German Supercup), the German league has already announced an amount obtained of €4.64bn for the 2017-2021 cycle (€1.16bn per season) on 09/06/2016, according to Sky (on 09/06/2016) and other German media (on 23/06/2016). The last two Lots N and L were not awarded on 12/09/2016 (see details below).

Sky Deutschland alone pays €876m on average per year for its 2017-2021 TV rights, according to the pay-TV group on 09/06/2016. This amount represents an increase of 80% for Sky, who paid an average of €486m per year over the 2013-2017 period. The increase would be only 32% between 2016-17 and 2017-18, according to Sky, but the scope of rights is different: Sky Deutschland has obtained the exclusivity of the entire 2.Bundesliga, but lost a portion of the Bundesliga rights, with some first division matches acquired by Eurosport.
