At €424.2m (£364.5m) in 2016-17, Liverpool FC (Premier League) displayed a turnover of over 4 times greater than that of that of FC Porto (Liga Nos), which generated €98.997m, according to figures from the 2018 Deloitte Football Money League and News Tank Football respectively. The two clubs with play one another at the Estádio Do Dragão in Porto (POR) in the Round of 16 of the 2017-18 Champions League on Wednesday 14/02/2018 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

The gap, in economic terms, has decreased in favour of FC Porto in 2016-17 compared to 2015-16; Liverpool had a gap on Porto of €327.988m (€403.8m compared to €75.812m) in 2015-16; whereas the gap was €325.2m in 2016-17 (€424.2m compared to €98.997m). The Premier League club however, are ranked ninth overall in Europe in terms of 2016-17 revenue and had the fifth best revenue for a Premier League side (€424.2m), while the Portuguese club failed to make the Deloitte Top 30.
